Creating Great Characters
Follow these 5 steps to create great comic book characters.
Step 1: Define Character Desires
- For each of your characters, identify their primary desire in the story... both the surface yearning and the emotional underpinning.
- For each character in your story, map out their story arc.
- Focus on the major turning points in the story, and how it caused the character to progress or regress.
- Also include moments of character revelation.
- Include any visual and story information you think would be most relevant.
- Keep it to one short paragraph.
- Think about your characters:
- Facial features and expressions
- Hair and wardrobe
- Gait and body language
- Silhouette
- As a bonus:
- Add a second outfit
- Consider additional background details:
- Environment
- Vehicle
- Weaponry
- Tools
- Etc.
- Optional:
- Do a Chibi Check!
- Write your script using either the first, second, or third person point-of-view.
- Consider how the story would change, or might be improved, if you used a different POV.
