We Get What We Deserve
What happens during the ten minutes after death, while the brain is still functioning?
We Get What We Deserve |
PAGE 1 | 1 PANEL
PANEL 1
The page is divided in two halves. One side depicts hell, the other, heaven. The ANTAGONIST – a well-dressed man with a bowler hat and cane – stands in the middle, inviting the reader to choose a side. The Antagonist shares stylistic similarities with the Darkhold Dwarf, although is taller and more elongated.
NOTE: There will be no dialogue bubbles used on any of the pages. Instead, all dialogue should be represented in CAPTION boxes which are either color coded to denote who is speaking, or identifiable in some other way.
1. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): How do you punish a man who made his own hell and thought it a heaven?
2. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): I would give him a conscience.
3. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): You assume he doesn’t have one?
4. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Alright then, I would give him my conscience.
5. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): Do you consider yourself a moral man?
6. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): As moral as the next.
7. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): How moral is that?

PANEL 1
The Antagonist hovers above the PROTAGONIST, who is lying on the ground with his head resting in a halo of blood. The Protagonist has the wild eyes of Ed Gein.
1. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Why am I here?
2. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): You died.
3. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Then how is it that I speak with you now?
4. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): You have not yet passed over.
5. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Where will I go?
6. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): That is not for me to decide.
7. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Who are you?
8. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): Who indeed.

PANEL 1
The Antagonist pushes the tip of his cane into the chest of the Protagonist and whacks the top of it with a mallet. There was no mallet earlier… it materialized out of nowhere.
1. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): It is cold.
2. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): You will adjust.
3. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Will I be alone?
4. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): Isn’t everyone?
5. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Will you come with me?
6. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): No.
7. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Will you show me no act of kindness?
8. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): I am with you now.
9. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): For how long?
10. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): Until it is done.
11. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Did I do something wrong?
12. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): Yes.
13. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Will you forgive me?
14. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): No.
15. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Then how can I repent?

PANEL 1
The Antagonist uses his hands to tear open the body cavity of the protagonist, exposing his palpitating heart.
1. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): It feels like I’m floating.
2. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): You will adjust.
3. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Will you show yourself?
4. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): There is no self to show.
5. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Then what is there?
6. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): There is nothing.
7. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Should I be scared?
8. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): This is the only peace you will ever know.

PANEL 1
The Antagonist lies inside the body cavity of the Protagonist, shrunken down, like a child in the womb.
1. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): I think I’m fading.
2. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): It is time.
3. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Will I see you again?
4. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): No.
5. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Will you hold my hand?
6. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): My hand is your hand.
7. CAPTION (PROTAGONIST): Are you me?
8. CAPTION (ANTAGONIST): Who did you think you were talking to?
